Previously healthy 60 year old gentleman referred to The Austin Vein Institute by his primary physician for evaluation by Dr. Brennig. He had developed acute clot in the varicose veins of his left leg. Those varicose veins had been present for many years and never treated. The vein clots were initially managed with pain medication and anticoagulant (blood thinner).
When the patients initial pain and swelling resolved the underlying varicose veins were treated with endovenous laser (EVLT), micro-phlebectomy and ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy.
The patients pain and swelling completely resolved. The risk for recurrent clot formation in the varicose veins has been eliminated as the varicose veins are now gone.
