Dr. Brennig will determine if the Venefit procedure is the right option for your vein problem. IN a private consultation, Dr. Brennig will work with you one-on-one to discuss your concerns. Vein treatment is not just about aesthetics, and Dr. Brennig will ask you questions about your health history, changes you have noticed in your legs, and your family health history. He may also perform a venous duplex ultrasound to gather data for your diagnosis and treatment plan. This is your time to ask questions and communicate your needs to Dr. Brennig.

At our office at the Austin Vein Institute, your Venefit procedure should take approximately 45 – 60 minutes to complete. We will take you to one of our sterile treatment rooms and prep you for the procedure. Dr. Brennig may give you a local or regional anesthetic to numb the area as no sedation or general anesthesia is needed to perform the Venefit. Once numb, Dr. Brennig will insert a catheter into the varicose vein, which will apply direct, consistent heat to the area. This will contract the collagen in your vein to deteriorate. The vein will collapse and close off so that no blood will flow through it. Your blood will naturally go to the healthier veins instead. The catheter will be removed from your leg and a sterile bandage will be placed over the insertion site.

Every patient's recovery is unique, just like the vein disease itself. If you have extensive vein disease, your veins have been affected much longer and will require more time to heal. However, you should begin to see improvements in the appearance within 1 – 2 weeks. As with all procedures, there are potential risks and complications that can occur, and we ask that if you experience any abnormal side affects to please call our office for medical assistance. Vessel perforation, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), blood clots, inflammation, hematomas, and skin irritations are all possible risks.

Dr. Brennig has personally performed more than 2000 catheter-based saphenous vein ablations with 0% of his patients having developed DVT. All his treated patients were analyzed post-treatment at least once with ultrasonography in order to rule out the presence of DVT. Our patients also report limited to no scarring, bruising or swelling following the Venefit procedure.
